In our network society it is of vital importance for government organizations to understand social networks and user participation. It enables them to understand their citizens better and to use, for example, collective intelligence to strengthen their position or improve their services. At Erasmus University, 25 international master Media and Business students combined their academic knowledge and creative thinking to advise four government organizations who want improve and activate the relationship with their citizens.
- The Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) wants to know how to involve citizens in reporting about the illegal trade in food supplements
- Public Information and Communications Service (DPC) would like to anticipate better on the questions 17-25 year olds have about the government
- Dienst Uitvoering Onderwijs (DUO) wants to activate students to be more pro-active and to look for their own answers online
- The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO.nl) would like to stimulate their employees to be ambassadors of their organization and promote their products and services through social media
During the mini-symposium, the students will present their solutions to these challenges in four video presentations. The symposium is co-organized by Dr. Mijke Slot of Erasmus University and the coordinator of the Rijksbreed Kennisnetwerk Social Media Theo Zijderveld. It will be hosted by the Ministry of Justice and Security.
